The importance of insects as food supplements

  Many of those insects are edible and provide a solid source of protein. This is where everyone goes for insect farming and actually grows their own insects at home for a fraction of the cost it takes to raise cattle, pork, or poultry. Grasshoppers, black soldier flies, common housefly larvae, silkworms, and yellow mealworms are among the most promising species for industrial feed production. And termites are also viable, but to a lesser extent. Farming these insects could promote befliester manure and organic waste management while also providing nutritious feed ingredients to pets and livestock. Aside from this, it has the best nutritional composition and digestibility. Insects are also selected for ease of rearing by the producer. The insects used as animal fodder include a wide range of suitable insects, e.g. black sol-dier fly larvae, house fly maggots, mealworms, silkworms, and locust grasshoppers and crickets.
